The 160 Madeira Consorcio meeting on June 20, 2026, featured a video presentation on the use of drones.
Adam Bry, from a sheep farming family in Tasmania, developed drones to address challenges in land and cattle management. His company now produces custom-built drones for specific purposes.
Drones can be employed for weed control on dam walls, placing prisms for laser connections, and creating firebreaks in forests. On Madeira, Civil Protection uses drones to find missing persons, and firefighters use them to spot smoke.
Private drone operation on the island requires a pilot license, civil damages insurance, and permits from ANAC and AAN, potentially with additional licenses from the Forest Police and/or the Capitania depending on the flight area.
