ADN Launches Petition for Elderly in Care Homes to Keep Pets

The Alternative National Democratic party (ADN) has initiated a public petition aimed at ensuring the right of elderly residents in care homes to keep their companion animals.

The party argues that institutionalization should not necessitate the forced separation between seniors and their pets, which are often their sole companions and source of affection. The ADN cited the case of a cat that alerted a neighbor to the emergency situation of its 83-year-old owner who had fallen at home.

In the petition, the ADN calls for the recognition of this right, deeming it essential for the dignity, mental, and physical health of the elderly. The party also advocates for coordinated responses among health services, social security, and animal protection entities to ensure solutions that protect both seniors and their animals.
