Artificial intelligence (AI) and the creation of 'digital twins' could revolutionize agricultural management in Madeira, enabling the anticipation of extreme weather events, prevention of pests and diseases, and more efficient water resource management.
The proposal, presented by Miguel Castro Neto, director of NOVA IMS, suggests creating virtual representations of the territory and agricultural activities. These tools would allow for the simulation of future scenarios, testing of different long-term decisions, and real-time monitoring of activities.
Castro Neto highlighted the importance of AI in analyzing large volumes of data and predicting future events, such as floods or pest outbreaks, aiding in preventive decision-making and the optimization of irrigation and other resources.
