Albuquerque Accuses Far-Left of Manipulating Housing Protests

Madeira's Regional Government President, Miguel Albuquerque, labelled the housing rights demonstrations held in Lisbon and Porto as "manipulations by the radical far-left and the Communist Party".

Albuquerque dismissed the risk of similar protests in Madeira, criticising vandalism and confrontations that occurred on the mainland. He stated that the solution to the housing crisis lies in building homes, highlighting a regional investment of 175 million euros, supplemented by municipal funds and future housing funds.

The president argued that public housing construction is the answer to housing access difficulties, not "making a fuss, or agitating and radicalising positions in society."
