The Association of Retirees, Pensioners, and Elderly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARPIRAM) is calling for the participation of retirees, pensioners, and workers in a demonstration against the increasing cost of living.
The protest, organized by the Union of Trade Unions of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (USAM), is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, in Funchal. The gathering will begin at 10:00 AM at the Casa Sindical, Rua do Bom Jesus, n.º 9, and will proceed to Rua Dr. Fernão Ornelas.
The event coincides with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Recent data indicates that 20.5% of Madeira's population was at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2025.
