The Bartolomeu Perestrelo Basic School with Preschool organised the initiative “European Education and the Challenges of Educational Internationalisation”. The event provided a platform for reflection and sharing on contemporary European education challenges, citizenship, educational policies, and the impact of international mobility and cooperation.
The opening session was attended by the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Elsa Fernandes, and the Regional Director of Education, João Costa e Silva, who reaffirmed the regional commitment to international experiences and the positioning of Madeiran schools within European networks. Marina Silva, Erasmus+ Programme coordinator for Madeira, also participated.
The initiative featured a conference by Professor Liliana Rodrigues on European construction and internationalisation, followed by a panel discussion with teachers and students involved in Erasmus+ mobility. The school's Erasmus+ coordinator, Bárbara Pereira, presented the institution's internationalisation journey and projects like “For Nature! Find a STEM Solution… For Life”. The event highlighted that educational internationalisation transforms school culture, engages the community, and fosters a more open and democratic school.
