This year's mass honoring the Assumption of Our Lady of Monte was presided over by Canon Marcos Gonçalves, vicar-general of the Diocese of Funchal, in the absence of Bishop Nuno Brás.
The bishop is in Venezuela visiting Madeiran communities and sent a WhatsApp message, read by Marcos Gonçalves, expressing solidarity with earthquake victims and asking for prayers for Venezuelans and Madeiran emigrants.
In his homily, the vicar-general greeted authorities and faithful present, highlighting faith's importance as a living heritage and a sign of unity. He recalled the origin of devotion to Our Lady of Monte and its significance during difficult times in the island's history.
