The CDS-PP Parliamentary Representation has submitted a Motion of Condolence to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira (ALM) following the passing of José de Jesus Barreto, a renowned businessman in the region's hotel and tourism sector.

José de Jesus Barreto, who died at the age of 90, was a central figure in the economic, tourist, and social development of the archipelago for over half a century. Born in Mozambique in 1935, he graduated in Accounting and arrived in Madeira in 1965, where he began a notable career in tourism.

His achievements include the conception and construction of the Madeira Casino and the Casino Park Hotel, the acquisition of Casa do Turista, the founding of Quinta do Furão, the creation of Estalagem Quintinha de São João, and the construction of Estalagem Jardins do Lago. The CDS-PP praises his career as a "visionary businessman and tireless entrepreneur" who left an "inestimable legacy" in the regional economy.

Barreto employed over 600 collaborators and held responsibilities in business associations, including chairing the Industry Sector of ACIF. He received several distinctions, most recently the Autonomous Insignia of Value last July.
