Chega (CH) Member of Parliament Francisco Gomes has accused the PSD of delaying a constitutional review that, in his view, should strengthen Madeira's powers.
Gomes argues that there is currently a right-wing parliamentary majority capable of advancing changes to the autonomous model. In a statement, he criticized the PSD for, as he claims, advocating for the deepening of autonomy in Madeira while failing to materialize this stance in the Assembly of the Republic.
The CH parliamentarian advocates for a "profound" revision of the Constitution, expanding the areas in which Madeira can legislate and decide autonomously, strengthening the powers of its self-governing bodies, and abolishing the figure of the Republic's Representative. He believes the PSD "talks about autonomy in Madeira, promises constitutional revisions when it needs votes, and then, in Lisbon, goes back on its word," accusing the Social Democrats of "betraying Madeirans."
