Funchal is beginning to take on its Christmas look. The company responsible for festive lighting, LuxStar, has crews working on the city's streets, some of them climbing trees as dusk falls.
Installation has started on Rua João de Deus. So far the lights are white; the coloured displays have yet to be put up.
The crews still have many trees to decorate and a large number of bulbs to hang, so the work is expected to continue for some time.
