A few weeks later, in May 2026, architectural plans were examined and received a unanimous favorable opinion, marking an important stage in the planning process. Modelo Continente S.A. is explicitly named as the applicant in municipal documents, strengthening indications that Estreito da Calheta is the chosen location for the new supermarket.
While the project has cleared significant hurdles, a construction start date has not yet been set. The project is expected to be undergoing further technical and administrative approval procedures. The opening of a new Continente store could significantly improve the supply of goods in the west of the island and create new jobs.
