Independent councilor Luís Filipe Santos will propose urgent measures at the next Funchal City Council meeting to reduce traffic speed on Rua 31 de Janeiro, particularly between Jardim de Santa Luzia and the Rotunda dos Viveiros.
The proposal follows a public petition from residents and users concerned about frequent speeding, sudden acceleration, and noise, especially from motorcycles, in this residential area with high pedestrian traffic.
Santos advocates for a technical assessment and the implementation of traffic calming measures, including speed bumps, raised crosswalks, enhanced signage and enforcement, and potentially fixed speed cameras, along with stricter control of nighttime noise.
