A large depression over the Atlantic, possibly to be named 'Bruna', is expected to start affecting Madeira on Thursday, with periods of rain becoming intense in the early hours of Friday. Some thunderstorms may also occur.
According to current model forecasts, the system is complex and carries significant instability, with tropical air masses expected to intensify the rainfall. Southwest winds will also strengthen on Saturday and Sunday, with gusts that may exceed 100 km/h.
Saturday and especially Sunday show the greatest potential for rain, a forecast that will be refined as new model projections become available. Airport landings will probably be affected.
