Approximately 40% of residences advertised for sale and rent in Funchal are equipped with air conditioning. This percentage places the Madeiran capital among Portuguese cities with the highest rate of homes offering this amenity.
The study, conducted by idealista based on over 200,000 listings in the second quarter of 2026, shows the national average is only 34%. Among district capitals, Funchal matches Porto at 40%, trailing cities like Vila Real (53%) and Faro (51%). Lisbon has 35%.
At the district level, Madeira aligns with the national average of 34% of properties with air conditioning. Nationally, the difference between homes for sale (34%) and for rent (33%) with air conditioning is minimal.
