Funchal City Council has opened entries for another edition of the "Funchal Christmas Shop Windows" contest, which will hand out 3,500 euros in cash prizes to businesses with the most striking festive displays.
The contest is run with the Funchal Commercial and Industrial Association – Madeira Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It aims to encourage shopkeepers to decorate their windows and façades. Entries close on 30 November, and judges will reward originality, creativity, aesthetic quality and the message conveyed.
The first-place winner receives 1,000 euros, second place 800 euros and third place 600 euros. Fourth and fifth places receive 400 and 200 euros. A Sustainable Window Prize of 500 euros will also be awarded for displays using reusable and natural materials.
The council says the initiative seeks to support traditional commerce and strengthen the city's appeal to residents and visitors during the festive season.
