The Regional Civil Protection Service has issued a heavy rain warning for the Madeira archipelago, based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
Until Friday, generally light rain is expected, especially on the northern slopes and in the highlands. From Saturday, rainfall may be heavy at times, with greater incidence on the southern slopes and highlands. At sea, waves of 1.5 to 2.5 metres are forecast on the north coast of Madeira and in Porto Santo.
The authorities urge residents to clear drains and gutters where safe, avoid crossing flooded roads, and stay away from the coastline during high swell.
