In 2016, the São Pedro Parish Council placed a tribute plaque to Madeiran poet Herberto Helder in the gardens adjacent to the Pico Fortress. The plaque, made of brass on a basalt stone, features a poem from his work "Photomaton & Vox".
Currently, oxidation and rust obscure the lettering, making the text indecipherable. The site, overlooking Funchal Bay and the fortress walls, contrasts sharply with the memorial's neglected state, which requires cleaning and maintenance.
