Iniciativa Liberal Warns of Golf Demand Drop, Seeks Government Clarification

The Liberal Initiative (IL) has warned of a significant decrease in golf demand in Madeira between January and May 2026, with the total number of rounds played falling by 15.3% compared to the previous year. The decline was even more pronounced among international golfers (-21.7%) and non-members (-19.6%). Although total revenues increased by 3.9%, the IL argues this growth should not mask the drop in demand and questions whether the increase is solely due to price hikes. The party is seeking clarification from the Regional Government regarding its strategy for the sector, particularly in light of public investment in new courses, and disputes statements about the revenue generated by the Porto Santo golf course, citing a discrepancy that needs to be addressed.
