Despite widespread damage in La Guaira from the June 24 earthquake, the Sol de Orelle establishment in Macuto reopened last Saturday, offering a rare sign of hope.
Managed by Eduardo Teles for two decades, the building survived the tremor with minimal damage, allowing operations to resume. "Here in the business, thank God, nothing happened. We are working," Teles stated.
Although his home sustained structural damage, Teles noted that sales have surged due to the closure of many neighboring businesses. Sol de Orelle has become a focal point for customers, symbolizing the city's resilience.
Teles recalled the moments of panic during the earthquake but emphasized the importance of being alive. The reopened establishment is seen as a small step toward normalcy in La Guaira, still marked by damaged buildings and deserted streets.
