Madalena Costa, representing Sporting Clube Santacruzense, secured her second consecutive senior women's free skating world title on Sunday, October 11th. The event, held in Asunción, Paraguay, saw the 17-year-old set a new scoring record.
Costa led after Saturday's short program with 92.78 points and added 171.91 points in her free skate for a total of 264.69, surpassing her own previous record. This victory marks her as the first Portuguese skater to win the senior title twice.
Spain's Sira Gallarda took silver and Elna Frances claimed bronze. Letícia Marinho was the second-highest-placed Portuguese competitor, finishing seventh out of 35 skaters. Costa's gold was Portugal's third figure skating medal of the competition, following gold from João Cruz and bronze from Rita Azinheira in junior events.
