Madeira has allocated 150,000 euros for social support for victims of the earthquake in Venezuela. The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, indicated that this amount could be increased if needs on the ground warrant it.
The priority is to support Portuguese citizens and those of Portuguese descent affected by the catastrophe, which has caused over a hundred deaths within the community. The approved funds will be channeled through a dedicated account to ensure they reach the intended recipients.
Albuquerque also discussed the potential return of families to Madeira but ruled out a mass immigration scenario similar to 2019, while assuring that the region is prepared to assist those needing to return.
