The Regional Civil Protection Service of Madeira (SRPC, IP-RAM) marked World Social Media Day on June 30th by signing a collaboration protocol with VOST Portugal. This partnership aims to strengthen public information and diversify communication channels before, during, and after emergency situations.
The agreement, signed on June 26th, seeks to broaden the dissemination of official warnings and self-protection recommendations to the Madeiran population. It covers scenarios such as fires, adverse weather phenomena, or serious accidents, with the goal of combating disinformation and increasing citizens' digital and media literacy.
Richard Marques, president of SRPC, IP-RAM, highlighted the importance of effective communication in civil protection, stating that "the speed of information is as important today as the speed of operational response." VOST Portugal is an association of digital volunteers specializing in collecting and disseminating information in crisis contexts.
