The Autonomous Region of Madeira will host the official celebrations for the 51st Independence Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, from July 10 to 12. The initiative, organized by the Embassy of São Tomé and Príncipe in Portugal and the Regional Government of Madeira, aims to mark the historical, cultural, and human ties between the two Portuguese-speaking archipelagos.
The program features the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of São Tomé and Príncipe in Madeira, a conference on business and investment potential, and a large public celebration at Nazaré Urban Park. This celebration will include a football match, cultural presentations such as Tchiloli, musical performances, and traditional dances, culminating in the 'Call of the Homeland' and institutional speeches.
The festivities conclude on Sunday, July 12, with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Funchal Cathedral, presided over by the Bishop of Funchal, D. Nuno Brás.
