The Autonomous Region of Madeira will now issue risk and emergency warnings via SMS to mobile phones within the affected area. This system, operated through agreements with NOS, MEO, and Vodafone, is part of the Regional Risk Monitoring and Communication System.
Messages will be sent to all mobile phones located in the alert area, regardless of the operator, covering residents and visitors, in Portuguese or English. The service is free for recipients, and operators will prioritize message dissemination.
The SMS messages will provide clear information about the situation, affected area, expected duration, protective measures, and responsible entity, with two types of communication: preventive warnings and action alerts.
