The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended hot weather warnings for Madeira. The island's mountainous regions will be under an orange alert from Friday, July 3rd, to Sunday, July 5th, due to persistent very high maximum temperatures.
The North and South coasts of Madeira and Porto Santo remain under a yellow alert. The warning for the coasts takes effect on Thursday, July 2nd, and for Porto Santo on Friday, July 3rd, both extending until Sunday, July 5th.
The Regional Civil Protection Service warned of continued hot and dry weather, with maximum temperatures expected between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius. They also cautioned about an increased risk of rural fires, dehydration, and heat stress.
