Madeira is competing to add a fourth distinction to its history in the 7 Wonders of Portugal contest. Seven regional heritage sites have advanced to the national semi-final, taking place in Sintra, where 49 contestants will be reduced to 21 finalists.
The Madeiran candidates represent each of the seven categories: Forte de Nossa Senhora do Amparo (Castles), Teleférico da Rocha do Navio (Great Works), Casas de Colmo (History), Igreja Matriz de São Jorge (Religion), Mercado dos Lavradores (20th Century), Casa das Mudas (21st Century), and Jardim Monte Palace Madeira (Tourism).
These seven locations survived the regional phase after a public vote that began in May. Voting for the semi-final, open until September 5th, can be done via phone or the TVI Pass app, with each vote costing 1 euro plus VAT. The 21 finalists will proceed to the National Grand Final on September 12th, where category winners will be chosen.
