The island of Madeira will have the opportunity to witness a significant part of the first total solar eclipse in almost 100 years. The astronomical event is scheduled for August 12th.
The phenomenon will begin at 6:30 PM, reach its peak around 7:30 PM, and end at 8:30 PM. While the totality of the eclipse will only be visible in Montesinho Natural Park, in Bragança, where the Sun will be completely hidden by the Moon for about 26 seconds, Madeira and the Azores will experience considerable obscuration.
In Madeira and the Azores, the Sun's obscuration percentage is expected to range between 74% and 77%. Authorities strongly recommend that the eclipse be observed only with certified protective eyewear to ensure visual safety.
