Madeira will celebrate its marine heritage from October 7 to 11 with the third edition of the Madeira Whale Fest. Part of the Madeira Nature Festival, the event aims to bring the community closer to the ocean and highlight the importance of protecting whales and dolphins.
The five-day program brings together scientists, artists, local organizations, and the community through activities combining science, education, culture, and art. Alongside celebrating cetaceans, the festival will explore the threats they face and encourage a more sustainable relationship with the marine environment. The initiative is coordinated by the management committee of Madeira’s Whale Heritage Area (WHA).
Activities include Blue Safari Madeira's "Mapping Whales" presentation, a talk on marine litter by SPEA Madeira, ARTEM's "Islands 2026: SOIL & TERRA" exhibition, the "An Ocean of Diversity" photographic display by WHA Madeira, and the "Arraial da Baleia" organized by the Madeira Whale Museum.
