Independent deputy Miguel Castro plans to present a resolution project in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, recommending the reinforcement of maritime surveillance and inspection means for the archipelago.
The initiative aims to increase naval, aerial, and satellite resources, prompted by the presence of vessels linked to the 'Russian ghost fleet' and suspicions of drug trafficking.
Castro also cited the discovery of empty fuel canisters on the Desertas Islands and the coast of Porto Santo, arguing for increased attention from authorities and more effective coordination between the Navy, National Maritime Authority, and Air Force.
