Movember-style push: Portuguese league urges men to look after prostate health

The Portuguese League Against Cancer launches a November campaign urging men over 50 to discuss prostate screening with their doctor.

The Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) is marking Novembro Azul with the campaign "Tens coragem de cuidar de ti?" ("Do you have the courage to look after yourself?"), aimed especially at men aged 50 to 70.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Portugal. Estimates from the Global Cancer Observatory point to almost 7,700 new cases in 2024, about 21 a day. Age and family history are among the most significant risk factors.

The LPCC advises men from the age of 50 to talk with their doctor about prostate health, without waiting for symptoms. Changes in urination, such as difficulty urinating or more frequent urges, warrant attention. LPCC president Vítor Veloso stressed that the absence of symptoms does not mean the absence of risk.
