A new and sophisticated wave of scams is causing alarm on the island of Madeira. The scheme involves a combination of fraudulent phone calls, deceptive SMS messages, and in-person collection of victims' bank cards.

One known case resulted in a substantial loss for a victim, who had approximately €50,000 withdrawn from their bank account. The incident has been reported to the judicial authorities (PJ), who indicated that other victims have also come forward.

This elaborate scheme poses a growing threat, and authorities are urging vigilance and information sharing to prevent future fraudulent activities.
