The President of the Funchal City Council, Jorge Carvalho, outlined the coordination plan for the 2026 Nossa Senhora do Monte Festival. The plan includes a significant reinforcement in security, civil protection, traffic, cleaning, and sanitation, with approximately 120 personnel involved.
Preventive and emergency measures, temporary road traffic changes, and a special cleaning operation before, during, and after the festivities are included. The City Council urged the public's cooperation for the event's smooth running.
Father Vítor Sousa of Monte emphasized the festival's traditional character and the importance of preserving community identity, inviting locals and visitors to participate in the religious celebrations and festivities, which feature traditional 'despique' groups.
