Porto Santo is set to host the EHF Champions Cup 2026, an international beach handball competition, from October 15 to 18. The event will bring together teams, athletes, technical staff, referees, delegates, and media representatives from various countries.
The Regional Government of Madeira will support the initiative with financial aid of up to 60,000 euros, through a protocol with the Portuguese Handball Federation. This measure aims to promote Porto Santo as a destination capable of hosting major sporting events and to boost tourism activity on the island, particularly outside the peak season.
According to the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, the competition is an opportunity to showcase the island and associate Madeira with a spectacular sport. The event is expected to generate demand for accommodation, restaurants, and other tourist services, enhancing Porto Santo's visibility and diversifying its tourism offerings.
