PS Demands Urgent CMF Intervention in Praça do Carmo Against Insecurity and Crime

The Socialist Party (PS) on Thursday demanded an urgent intervention by the Funchal Municipal Chamber (CMF) in Praça do Carmo to combat the growing insecurity, vandalism, and crime in the area.

During the council meeting, socialist councilor Rui Caetano described the situation as "shameful" and an "authentic hell" for residents, mentioning drug use and trafficking, prostitution, and disturbances as persistent problems. Caetano advocated for an integrated intervention plan and the creation of a Municipal Police force to definitively resolve the issue.

At the same meeting, the PS abstained from voting on the Carmo Urban Rehabilitation Detailed Plan and voted against other proposals, citing concerns about parking dimensions, lack of legal opinions, and document contradictions, as well as criticizing the waiver of land cession to the public treasury.
