The Regional Government of Madeira is investing €247,100 in this year's edition of the Colombo Festival, held on the island of Porto Santo between September 17 and 20.
This figure represents an increase of over €43,000 compared to last year's event, driven by new features such as a circus performance and enhanced promotion. Hotel occupancy on the Golden Island is expected to remain around 93%, considered a very good rate.
The festival, themed around the Age of Discoveries, draws hundreds of visitors annually. It begins with the reenactment of Christopher Columbus's arrival on Porto Santo, greeted by a 16th-century market. The event features dramatizations, reenactments, acrobatics, and juggling, with continuous street entertainment and period costumes.
