The Sharpshooter Company of the 3rd Garrison Regiment's Infantry Battalion (RG3), consisting of 120 soldiers, returned to Madeira on June 29th. The unit participated in a training cycle and exercises of national and international scope.
Initially, they took part in the ORION 26 exercise at the Santa Margarida Military Field, where they achieved operational readiness certification. Subsequently, they were deployed to Zaragoza, Spain, to join a European Union Battlegroup (EUBG) and participate in the MILEX 26 exercise, testing crisis response capabilities in a multinational setting.
The training cycle also included the Quick Lion 26 exercise, focused on the operational evaluation of the international force. During these activities, soldiers trained and validated various capabilities, such as stabilization and security missions, escorts, zone control, and protection of critical infrastructure, including the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for surveillance and reconnaissance. The participation enhanced interoperability with EU forces and joint operational capacity in demanding scenarios.
