The Norwegian sailing ship Sørlandet, the world's oldest active square-rigged vessel, docks in Funchal from October 22nd to 28th.

The Sørlandet, a Norwegian sailing ship built in 1927 and recognized as the oldest active square-rigged vessel, will visit Funchal from October 22nd to 28th. The ship, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2027, is marking the period leading up to its centenary.

Onboard the Sørlandet operates the A+ World Academy, an international school where 72 students from grades 10, 11, and 12 study, live, and work for approximately ten months while traveling the globe. The academic program includes Advanced Placement courses and requires students to participate in daily ship duties and onboard life. Among the students is Luz Vasconcelos, the youngest participant at 15 years old and the only Portuguese national on this voyage.
