The Santa Cruz Municipal Council approved three projects this Tuesday aimed at reducing losses in the municipality's drinking water distribution network. The total investment is around three million euros, with co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The projects include the Serralhal subsystem and the second phase of the Barreiros subsystem, both in Caniço parish, and the Igreja subsystem in Camacha parish. These initiatives continue a global project started in 2020, aiming to reduce current losses, estimated at 70%, by 30% to 40% by the end of 2027.
Combating water loss is a key objective of the municipality's environmental plan, with the council committed to launching three to four major projects in this area annually to cover all 20 subsystems within the municipality.
