The order of speeches at the official ceremony for Machico's Parish Day, held on July 2nd, has led to public criticism regarding protocol compliance.
António Nóbrega, a former councilman and member of the Liberal Initiative party, questioned on social media why the Regional Government's representative spoke before the Parish Council president, arguing the order should have been reversed.
Machico's Parish Council president, Pedro Viveiros, stated that the event's organizers determined the speaking order based on the program structure and institutional framework, expressing ignorance of any strict legal protocol for such local ceremonies.
