A group of 11 volunteers, comprising locals and foreign residents, dedicated last Saturday to cleaning the Vereda do Larano trail, where trash had been accumulating.
The initiative, led by hiking guide Paulo from Teles Mountain Guide Madeira, collected waste such as toilet paper, which has become a recurring problem on the island's trails.
Participants are appealing to the Regional Government of Madeira and municipal councils to promote a public awareness campaign with the message 'pack it in, pack it out,' leaving only footprints behind.
