The 23rd Funchal Traditional Canoe Regatta will take place next Saturday, August 22nd, at 12:00 PM in Funchal Bay. This initiative, organized by the Madeira Regional Canoeing Association with support from the Madeira Association Sport for All, aims to enhance the region's maritime and cultural heritage.
So far, 35 entries have been received, involving approximately 90 participants from various municipalities on the island. The approximately 2.5-kilometer course will start and finish near the São Lázaro Nautical Center, rounding a buoy off Praia da Barreirinha. Canoes will be divided into Class A (Traditional) and Class B (Non-Traditional).
The event, with over two decades of history, seeks to keep the tradition of Madeira's fishing communities alive and also serves as a tourist attraction, combining culture, sport, and tourism.
