A group of 40 pilgrims started the traditional hike between Curral das Freiras and Ponta Delgada this morning. The crossing of Madeira's central mountain range is a mountainous, winding, and demanding route.
Among the participants are the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, Celso Bettencourt, and councilor Manuel Salustino. The walk, which fulfills an annual custom passed down through generations, is marked by mutual aid, camaraderie, and devotion, culminating in the arrival at Bom Jesus in the local parish.
