In 2025, 77% of the Portuguese population was targeted by at least one online scam or fraud attempt, according to the State of Scams Report by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA). This figure marks a 10% increase compared to the previous year.
The study, which surveyed 1,160 Portuguese individuals, found that 41% of those who received scam attempts interacted with them, and 63% of these suffered financial losses, averaging €2,967 per victim.
The most common scams involved purchases (14%), fake job offers (13%), and investment fraud (11%). Attempts primarily arrived via SMS (61%), phone calls (47%), and email.
