The Madeira Astronomy and Astrophotography Association (AAAM) is organizing a public session to observe the partial solar eclipse, which will occur on August 12, 2026. The event will begin at 6:30 PM at the Funchal Observatory and Astronomy Park, located at Pico do Areeiro.
This eclipse is considered one of the most important astronomical phenomena visible from Madeira in the coming years. In the region, the eclipse will reach a maximum obscuration of approximately 77% of the solar disk. Observation will be conducted safely, with the support of telescopes equipped with suitable solar filters and guidance from AAAM members.
The initiative is free and open to the entire population, offering an opportunity to observe the phenomenon, learn about solar eclipses, and share a scientific outreach experience in a privileged location for sky observation.
