AAAM Invites Public to Observe Partial Solar Eclipse in 2026 at Pico do Areeiro

The Madeira Astronomy and Astrophotography Association is organizing a free public session to observe the partial solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.

The Madeira Astronomy and Astrophotography Association (AAAM) is organizing a public session to observe the partial solar eclipse, which will occur on August 12, 2026. The event will begin at 6:30 PM at the Funchal Observatory and Astronomy Park, located at Pico do Areeiro.

This eclipse is considered one of the most important astronomical phenomena visible from Madeira in the coming years. In the region, the eclipse will reach a maximum obscuration of approximately 77% of the solar disk. Observation will be conducted safely, with the support of telescopes equipped with suitable solar filters and guidance from AAAM members.

The initiative is free and open to the entire population, offering an opportunity to observe the phenomenon, learn about solar eclipses, and share a scientific outreach experience in a privileged location for sky observation. For those unable to attend, the session will be broadcast live by NaMinhaTerra TV.
