The Institute for Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) has increased its presence and surveillance in Madeira's main high points, anticipating a larger public turnout for the observation of this Wednesday's partial solar eclipse.
Locations such as Pico do Areeiro and Achada do Teixeira are expected to be popular due to their favorable viewing characteristics. The partial eclipse in Madeira will begin around 6:49 PM, reaching its maximum phase at approximately 7:46 PM, when about 81.6% of the solar disk will be obscured at Pico do Areeiro. The phenomenon is expected to end around 8:39 PM.
The IFCN urges attention to safety conditions, respect for natural area rules, and the avoidance of waste. It also reminds the public not to use fire and for visitors to stay in authorized areas, avoiding risky behavior. Strict adherence to traffic rules is recommended, especially on access roads to high areas where increased vehicle flow is anticipated.
