A new road accident has caused a major traffic jam on the expressway, in the same direction as an earlier incident. The tailback currently stretches about 8 km, between kilometres 25 and 17.3, in the area of the Comboio Viaduct, towards Machico and Ribeira Brava.
No further information about the accident or its consequences is available yet. Hundreds of people are affected by the delays.
So far, none of the fire brigades based in Funchal have been called out.
