ACIF Backs Bernardo Trindade in Race for Confederation of Tourism of Portugal Leadership

The Funchal Commercial and Industrial Association (ACIF) has announced its support for Bernardo Trindade's candidacy for the presidency of the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal (CTP). The decision was communicated following a meeting at ACIF headquarters in Funchal.

António Jardim Fernandes, president of ACIF, justified the support by Trindade's extensive background, which includes political, governmental, business, and associative experience. The candidate's Madeiran origin was noted as an additional advantage due to his understanding of the regional reality and the specific challenges of tourism in the archipelago.

Bernardo Trindade, who chose Madeira to begin a second phase of campaign contacts, pledged to bring ACIF's concerns to the CTP. Topics discussed included the operationality of Madeira Airport, territorial management, tourist routes, and human resource shortages. Trindade suggested Porto Santo as a potential 'plan B' for airport operations during disruptions and advocated for greater business involvement in managing tourism tax revenues.
