ADN Madeira has issued a statement criticizing the Regional Government's optimistic view of the island's economy, arguing that the reality for many families is one of increasing financial hardship.
The party points out that regional inflation at 4.1% is higher than the national rate, with significant increases in energy products (14.2%) and transport (8%). Despite tourism growth, ADN Madeira emphasizes that this improvement is not reflected in the living conditions of residents, evidenced by a 16% increase in housing rental costs.
Furthermore, the average gross monthly remuneration fell by 0.3% in real terms in the second quarter, indicating a loss of purchasing power. The party questions the value of economic and tourism records if residents face growing difficulties in affording housing, fuel, and maintaining their purchasing power, exacerbated by island status and the need for more adapted policies.
