ADN Demands Study Disclosure Before Funchal Tourist Tax Doubling

ADN Madeira requests the full publication of the study justifying the tourist tax increase to 4 euros, citing tourism occupancy data.

ADN Madeira has requested the complete disclosure of the economic-financial study underpinning the proposal to double Funchal's tourist tax from 2 to 4 euros per night.

The party argues this demand is crucial, particularly as official indicators suggest a decline in occupancy and signs of slowdown in key segments of regional tourism. Data from May, June, and July show decreases in overnight stays and bed occupancy rates, even as revenues continue to rise, driven by increased average room prices.

ADN questions the justification for the new rate, recalling that the 2-euro tax was set based on an associated cost of 2.48 euros per overnight stay. The party wants to know the current municipal cost per tourist night, which services justify the doubling, the estimated impact on demand and competitiveness, and how previously collected revenues have been utilized.
