Madeira's Regional Government President, Miguel Albuquerque, has voiced concern regarding the doubling of the tourist tax in the municipalities of Funchal and Santa Cruz.
Albuquerque called for more restraint in imposing charges on visitors, confirming that the tax at the Ports will remain at two euros. "At this moment, our policy is exactly the opposite, it is to restrict taxes and levies," he stated.
The official also pointed to the rise in RevPAR (revenue per available room), which has increased by almost 100% since 2019, reaching 104 euros in 2025, as a factor to consider.
